Winter tires vs
all-seasons in Alberta
"All-season" is optimistic marketing in a province with a real winter. Below 7°C, all-season rubber hardens and loses grip, even on dry pavement. Winter compounds stay soft and keep biting at -30.
The practical rule: when daytime highs stay under 7°C, usually mid-to-late October in Edmonton, it's time to switch. In spring, swap back once temperatures hold above 7°C so you don't burn through soft winter tread on warm asphalt.
Rotations matter too. Every 8,000–10,000 km evens out wear between axles, stretches the life of the set, and gives us a regular look at pressure, tread depth and alignment clues before they become problems.

When should I switch to winter tires in Edmonton?
When daytime temperatures stay consistently below 7°C, usually mid-to-late October here. Below that, all-season rubber hardens and loses grip even on dry roads. Winter tires stay soft and grip in cold, snow and ice.
How much does a tire change cost?
Seasonal changes are $25 per tire. Rotations are $55. Everything's on our price list: no surprises.
How often should tires be rotated?
Every 8,000–10,000 km, or roughly every other oil change. It evens out wear, stretches tread life, and keeps the ride smooth and predictable.
Can a punctured tire be repaired?
Usually, yes. A puncture in the tread from a nail or screw can typically be patched safely. Sidewall or shoulder damage means replacement. Bring it in and we'll give you an honest answer either way.
Are all-seasons good enough for an Edmonton winter?
We don't recommend it. For ice, packed snow and -30 cold snaps, dedicated winter tires stop noticeably shorter and corner more predictably. It's the single best safety upgrade for winter driving.
